Nicknamed the “booze cruise,” the Yate Fiesta is a party boat to be sure. Combine the boat’s open bar with a two and a half hour sight seeing tour around the gorgeous Mazatlan coast, and you have a recipe for fiesta. The double decker Costalegre departs from the Mazatlan Harbor--Mexico’s largest natural harbor--twice a day, at 11am and 6pm The first landmark is the Pacifico brewery and its two gold and blue towers. Guide Liz calls them “the two most important towers in Mazatlan.” The bar serves about 10 different cocktails, including Mai Tai, Screwdriver, Sex on the Beach, Rum and Coke, beer etc. . . The party boat then chugs past Mazatlan, Mexico’s 650-boat shrimp fleet, and out to sea. The cruise can get a little rough at this point, depending on how hard the wind is blowing. But this shouldn’t deter those with a strong stomach and sturdy sea legs. The action of the boat is relatively mild compared with a deep sea fishing trip. And the bar boys are the most skilled crew you will ever sail with. They come up from the galley with a tray full of drinks and deliver them safely to all hands on deck. The cruise continues around the 515-foot lighthouse, past Diablo’s Cave | Devil’s Cave, which is hollowed out of the cliff, and by old town Mazatlan. During the evening cruise, Yate Fiesta pauses between Goat and Deer island just long enough to watch the sun set between them. Then it’s back to the harbor, as dusk descends on Mazatlan and the lights of the Malecon begin to dapple the shoreline. |
