YATE FIESTA Nicknamed the “booze cruise,” the Yate Fiesta is a party boat to be sure. Combine the boat’s open bar with a two and a half hour sight seeing tour around the gorgeous Mazatlan coast, and you have a recipe for fiesta.    The double decker Costalegre departs from the Mazatlan Harbor--Mexico’s largest natural harbor--twice a day, at 11am and 6pm The first landmark is the Pacifico brewery and its two gold more...

THE MAZATLAN AQUARIUM, located on Avenue De los Deportes, is a remarkable place filled with more than just a couple of sleepy gold fish swimming inside a few leaky tanks.  But, they got them too!  In fact, the Mazatlan Aquarium is home to more than 250 species of fish, turtles, alligators, crocodiles, amphibians, birds, wild pigs, sharks and even deer.  Spectators are wowed by the shark handling exhibit that features a lone diver, a playful sea turtle and a couple of nurse sharks.  Without hesitation, a young trainer dives below the surface and takes hold of the massive shark and caresses its soft underbelly with his free hand.  The tank isn’t very big, but there is plenty of room for the hoards of school children, educators and marine life fans to gather in front of the large viewing window and watch this amazing act. The Mazatlan Aquarium also offers two outdoor shows, the spectacular sea lion show featuring three “lobos marinos”, and also a bird exposition where some clever macaws showboat and steal the lime light from the trainers.  Bonny, one of the sea lions, has some amazing break dancing moves and is not shy about sharing barks and kisses with the crowd.  After the amazing ball handling clinic and hoop jumping presentation, the sea lions pose for photo opportunities with members of the crowd.

The bird show is unique and entertaining, as well as fun and cute.  With the help of a number of props, a wagon, basketball hoop, memory board and an inverted rocking jungle gym, the birds display there various talents to the awe of the spectators. Native iguanas and white herons walk freely through the park as if greeting the visitors as they walk by.   Exotic plants, flowers and trees line the pathways that weave through the exhibits of the Mazatlan Aquarium. The extensive grounds include a bird aviary, botanical gardens, fish aquarium,  amphibian exhibit, crocodile and turtle enclosure and even a hospital for pelicans, ducks and parrots, all contained within the estimated three acres of land.
The Mazatlan Aquarium is a value to the city and a bargain for the thousands of  customers who visit each year.  There is no reason to miss any of the shows because ample time is provided to explore the grounds while waiting for the next one to start.
